San Francisco, miasto w stanie California jest czwarte pod względem wielkości w samej Californi i trzynaste w całym kraju. Historia tego miasta, zamieszkanego przez prawie 810 tysięcy ludzi, sięga 1776 roku, kiedy to hiszpańscy kolonizatorzy osiedlili się na krańcu półwyspu. Następnie San Francisco i California należały do Meksyku a potem włączone do USA. Miasto przeżyło znaczne przyspieszenie rozwoju w 1886 roku podczas kalifornijskiej gorączki złota, stając się największym miastem na Amerykańskim zachodnim Wybrzeżu. W 1906 San Francisco zostało w dużej mierze zniszczone przez podczas trzęsienia ziemi i pożarów, które były jego skutkiem. Obecnie San Francisco jest dużym ośrodkiem turystycznym, znanym ze swoich atrakcji m.in Most Golden Gate, więzienie Alcatraz, Coit Tower, linie tramwajowe czy chińską dzielnicę - Chinatown. Charakterystyczne dla miasta są jego strome wzgórza i ulice oraz mieszanina stylów architektonicznych od wiktoriańskiego do postmodernizmu.
